    Newark, NJ – University Hospital (UH), the State's only public acute care hospital, announced today that it has appointed Mary K. E. Maples, Esq. as Interim President and CEO effective upon the departure of current President and CEO Shereef Elnahal, MD, MBA. Maples, University Hospital's Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary, has been serving in her current role since 2018. She previously worked with the Hospital while serving as Deputy Chief Counsel and Director of Authorities for Governor Phil Murphy, and Senior Counsel for Governor Chris Christie. According to Intuitive, the manufacturers of the da Vinci systems, University Hospital is one of only three acute care hospitals in New Jersey with both the da Vinci Xi and da Vinci SP robotic surgery units, and the only hospital in Essex County to offer both platforms. The NJEDA launched applications for Sustain & Serve NJ in late 2020 to support restaurants negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.     Newark, NJ – Epic and University Hospital have rapidly turned Meadowlands Exposition Center into a healthcare facility. Epic is a healthcare software company, University Hospital is New Jersey's state hospital and Level I Trauma Center, and Meadowlands is now Secaucus Federal Medical Station. Epic provided a plan and staffed a team with experience from other surge installs around the country. In the midst of caring for a growing number of patients with COVID-19 within their own organization, University Hospital staff outfitted the new facility.     Newark, NJ – Today, the Foundation for University Hospital announced that an anonymous corporate donor has given $2,271,295 to support University Hospital's COVID-19 response efforts. The anonymous donor worked with the Foundation as of earlier this week, and asked for a list of priorities to best help the hospital prepare for a potential growing surge of COVID-19 patients.     Newark, NJ – University Hospital announced today that its Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome Treatment & Observation Protocols (N.A.S.T.O.P.) program has successfully reduced the average length of stay duration for babies suffering from neonatal abstinence syndrome by more than 50%, from more than 42 to days to fewer than 20 days. The program has also decreased the neonatal abstinence treatment durations by more than 70%, reducing the overall reliance on drug-based interventions. more info
