Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)
(973) 972-1612
The Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Program provides optimal, innovative
treatment for the severely mentally ill, particularly those who do not respond
to, or cannot tolerate medication. The modern practice of ECT utilizes
state-of-the-art anesthesia and muscle relaxation, rendering the treatment
painless. ECT has extremely high success rates for the treatment of major
depressive disorder, suicidality, catatonia, mania, and other psychotic
symptoms. Faculty are principal investigators for the Consortium for Research
in ECT (C.O.R.E.), a federally funded national initiative documenting
psychopathology and cognition.
