The Pulmonary Diseases section diagnoses and manages disorders of the lungs,
including chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (i.e. chronic bronchitis,
emphysema), asthma, interstitial lung diseases, bronchiectasis, lung cancer,
and infectious lung diseases. We also specialize in the evaluation and
management of lung nodules and dyspnea/shortness of breath. We have particular
expertise in sarcoidosis, tuberculosis and non-tuberculosis mycobacteria
infection. State-of-the-art out-patient diagnostic services are provided
including flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy with advanced procedures including
endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), thoracentsis and pleural biopsy. In addition,
we offer full pulmonary function testing, methacholine challenge testing,
exhaled NO measurements, exercise evaluation, and home oxygen assessment.
The Critical Care Medicine section provides attending coverage in the Medical
Intensive Care Unit. This is a 15-bed unit with computerized patient monitoring
and data management systems, providing continuous hemodynamic monitoring.
